Lisa King Handmade

Through developing her batik collection, Lisa King got the chance to enjoy working with local batik artisans in southern Thailand. Having studied weaving at Central St. Martins, she also wanted to find a way to combine her prints with basket crafts in a modern way. As a child she spent time sailing the gulf of Thailand with her father. He would always carry a folding straw mat to sit on the beach afterwards.

The sedge mats were perfect for warm Thai weather but would not withstand the British rain, so Lisa decided to work with artisans to create the Raya mat, trimmed with waterproof ripstop fabric.

The baskets feature meticulously hand painted renders of Lisa's batik designs, finished in enamel and leather trims.
